Safer Internet Day 2018

Safer Internet Day 2018 (SID2018) is on Tuesday, 6 February 2018 to help encourage a better internet. Safer Internet Day creates an opportunity to enhance cyber risks awareness in your organisation. There are many things organisations can do, but here are our top 5 things:

1. REMIND ALL STAFF ABOUT KEY IT POLICIES.

Organisations often have a number of information technology (IT) policies e.g. IT Security Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, Email Policy etc. Take the opportunity to remind all staff about the the key elements of these policies and the role they play in protecting your organisation.

2. UPDATE YOUR ORGANISATIONS CYBER RISK PROFILE.

Which areas in your organisation are most exposed to cyber threats? How effective are your cyber controls? We suggest reviewing your risk register/ risk profiles and your incident register.

3. CONDUCT CYBER RISK AWARENESS TRAINING AND INTERNAL CAMPAIGNS.

Educating staff helps to prevent them falling prey to phishing scams.  Regular training will help you reinforce the importance of your organisation’s key cyber risk controls to reduce the likelihood of a cyber risk incident.

4. CONDUCT A CYBER RISK RESPONSE EXERCISE.

Regular exercising of the cyber incident response plan builds management capabilities, identifies gaps and ensures the organisation is better prepared to respond to a cyber attack.  How well are you prepared? How will you handle the crisis? What will you say to the media? For something a little different, why not plan a surprise desk top exercise?

5. CYBER RISK GAP ANALYSIS.

Provide reassurance to stakeholders.  Schedule a comprehensive independent review of your cyber risk governance framework to help identify key gaps. InConsult can help.  We combine our experience and the ground-breaking technology to examine many platform-agnostic risk factors, policy compliance statistics, and other leading risk indicators to provide you with your CSTAR score – a quantifiable security risk score for your organisation.
